It’s been half a month since I decided to make a compilation and sell it as part of my catalog for BLushcon 2024!
Just today I opened my TikTok to the public. I don’t usually use this TikTok because whenever I go to the app, I often use my brother’s account to browse and search for stuff. I only made an account because I needed to use it to make a video for my 2019 sketchbook tour which I uploaded on twitter last 2022.
Honestly, I don’t know much about advertising in social media. Since I had some social media accounts, I just decided to grab this chance to make use of all of them to spread the news that I’m publishing a fanbook.
This is my first time making a fanbook/fanzine. I would have preferred to print it myself so I can save money and sell it for a much cheaper price. However, since this is a compilation of my Tadaai works since 2021 until early February 2024, I decided to just let a third part print it for me.
I asked around and this shop’s manufacturing history is quite good. Another shop was suggested to me. It is a much cheaper shop, but in terms of the end product, I was told it was not really on par with this manufacturer I reached out to.
I’ve been thinking of making use of my Kofi and Etsy shops once the books are finished. I’m not really sure though if it is a good idea. I haven’t advertised my Kofi and Etsy shops. The truth is, I’m not even sure if I have an Etsy shop but I remember making one on a whim two years ago. I might have to take a look to confirm.
Usually I’m hesitant in reposting my own posts but nowadays, you have to be the one to lift yourself up because the algorithm is against you. Your followers don’t even see your posts so I thought I should just repost and repost.
In the past, I was of the thinking that some things don’t need to be advertised because they speak for themselves. Now, I believe that advertising your stuff is very important. Hence I decided to do some advertisement for my own work. This is not just because I’m procrastinating on my work, hehehe!
I posted various teasers before I finally posed my fanbook information on twitter. Maybe I didn’t do them right but at least I did it.
Fanzine twitters usually do interest checks at the start, but I can’t really do that with the time constraints I’m currently facing. Moreover, publishing a compilation had always been on my mind, but I was always wishy-washy with the things I wanted to do, so the planning never went well for that. Also, I initially wanted to make a doujinshi first. I actually wanted to release a free doujinshi initially, just a short vignette one, but time swept by me fast and I realized there is no time for me to do that right now.
Moreover, doing an interest check when I already know I’m going to publish this book, will not be useless, but it will not matter to me in the end.
So yeah I tried my hand on advertising to the best of my ability.
I don’t usually reblog my own stuff on Tumblr, but lately I’ve been doing it, just to get more eyes on my fanbook. I also made my TikTok public just for this.
Thinking about all of the things I’ve been doing makes me smile!
I aso needed to learn how to do publication materials for the ads.
Preorder Preparation
I finished doing the advertisement for my pre-order. I am also done with the forms. I even made a video for the 3D view of my fanbook. All I need to do is some advertisement materials for the pre-order period so I can at least reach my goal of 10 pre-orders. Having more than that would be a blessing already.
Pixiv and Toranoa
I’ve been wondering if I should post on Pixiv. I have an account, but I don’t usually use it. I visited it for the first time in a while, and I am confused if advertising on the platform would be beneficial. I don’t know how to speak Japanese. Let’s just see.
Toranoa is a site I’ve been eyeing on for a while. I follow their page to look at new doujinshi. I reached out to them to inquire about my fanbook publication. I heard they also offer third party printing services. I thought giving it a shot won’t hurt so I tapped them.
Learning
I might be able to level up my time management skills with this endeavor, and I might also level up my skills in production and media communication. Hehe. I hope things will end well. And more people can appreciate tadaai especially Filipinos!!!
I want to spread more tadaai love!!!! Maybe I’ll print a free fanbook and distribute it to people after BLushcon <3.
